Here I am, just arrives to the Port Authority of Vigo, the holder of one of the major logistic and business complexes in Europe. And I feel enthusiastic about it, with team spirit and permanently willing to reach consensus with everyone. For us, it is essential to start making decisions that are friendly both environmentally friendly and taking into account how unique our estuary, the Ría, is. We shall make firm decisions since we believe that tackling the necessary actions and works for the optimization of the operational capacity of the Port of Vigo is a must, as well as regarding the works needed for the Logistic Platform at Salvaterra- As Neves.
However, the Port must urgently have at its disposal the documentation contained in the respective Law to be used as basic tools for its future development. The Port Spaces Usage Plan and the Guidelines for Infrastructures must be produced and passed as soon as possible.
These projects are based on a wide consensus and were prepared thanks to the great work most of the Port Community carried out, and we have to stress how sensible and sensitive were the persons in charge of their production as they included all political views. Nevertheless, it is of paramount importance for us to keep in mind that this balance should never take ourselves away from our origins – that is Fishing.
This is why I intend to get the maximum of those projects so that we can go further in the making of the Special Plan for the Port, a key element for our development and a decisive tool for the harmonic integration of our port, our city and our metropolitan area.
We must not rest on our laurels. Therefore, we must improve and organize the spaces we have at our disposals, the commercial quays, the ro-ro terminal, the fishing piers, the transatlantic quay, and we must also boost our logistic platform and the motorway of the seas, and this is the reason why we need further infrastructure.
The Port is the living memory of our city. But it should be more than that: we want it to be our future, the flagship of development in our metropolitan area. And this is why, in order to achieve our goals, I invite absolutely everyone – the Regional Government of Galicia, the Central Government, the City Council of Vigo, the Industrial Area and the duty-free zone, the port’s users and the companies established in there, the port workers and the whole citizenry – to walk this path with us.
Ms Corina Porro Martínez
President of the Port Authority of Vigo
